Granddad is a clever Angel Investor who is looking for a business opportunity. He delves into the recycling business, to find how it really works. Having learned enough he becomes a Recycling Angel, and starts a business called Recycle Angel.
When he heard Greta Thunberg talk about the climate crisis and say, “I don’t want you to listen to me. I want you to listen to the scientists” he wanted to help. He had been told that recycling saves resources and helps save the planet, yet a lot of people said it doesn’t work. He set out to find out if it does.
Pretending to know nothing about recycling he conned his grandson, Freddy, into helping him. With Freddy’s help they visit a local recycling facility and a plant where waste is burned to generate electricity. They also visit a recycling facility in America. Granddad talks with the plant managers and sets to work himself on the sorting line to discover the problems at each stage. With the help of everyone he met on his journey, Granddad starts his own business, Recycle Angel, and Freddy runs it.
More information
The story is humorous. The characters are fictitious and so is the Recycle Angel business. However, the descriptions of the recycling ‘local’ facilities are based on information available on the internet.
The value of recycling is increasing and technology improving, whatever is not available now could be in the future. Hopefully the business will be created sometime.
