ABOUT RECYCLE ANGEL

This novel gives a humorous view of household recycling. Simple and often amusing explanations help to understand how it is collected, sorted and baled ready to be sold. It also covers how burning waste and contaminated recycling to generate electricity creates the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide and affects climate change.
The story shows some household recycling is burned because it is marked or contaminated. It also shows that with care, it is possible to keep it clean and make money collecting and selling recycling without harming the environment.

I have always been a keen supporter of any ideas which help to reduce the amount of plastic entering the oceans and also reducing the number of waste products burned. This not only costs money but contributes greatly to Global warming and Climate Change.

I also believe that getting children on board with this is a great way to move forward – let the children teach the adults! This is why I created the characters Freddy and Granddad and sent them on adventures in England and America. In this light-hearted story, they discover two ways recycling can be managed and what happens when it isn’t managed correctly.

In writing the book I did a lot of online research and also had direct contact with the local recycling team to learn of the problems they face. I then applied my personal experience in problem-solving and money-saving to help Granddad and Freddy on their journey and in coming up with Granddad’s amazing invention.

It’s interesting to read about the problems the recycling department faces even when we think we’re doing it right and of Granddad’s novel approach to the situation.
